Advertising - Why Don't You Try Using Ad Networks

An advertising network (also called an online advertising network) is a service that was born out of the needs of the market. In the old days of the internet,
it was very cumbersome for advertisers to negotiate an ad with each webpage. It was much quicker if an intermediary did the work for them. That way, the advertiser only needed to worry about which ad network to choose. But, finding good CPC or CPM ad networks isn't an easy task. Let's find out more about internet advertising networks.

What Are Ad Networks?

An advertising network is an online net where many different companies advertise their product. The idea is similar to the multi-product catalogs that were very common 10 to 20 years ago. The difference between an online ad network and a physical catalogue is that the former reaches an online audience: it is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and it can be updated with new information on products and promotions.

So, let's say that you, the advertiser, want to place an ad for your product. You need to look for an ad network, the intermediary, and ask him about his offers and costs. Then, the intermediary will publish the ad banner in his network of web pages.

An ad network reaches the audience through a combination of two methods. The first one is a variety of ad units (like, banners, pop-ups and emails). The second one is the cost model: cost per click (CPC), cost per action (CPA), cost per lead (CPL), or cost per thousand (CPM).

It rests on the advertiser to make his choice of the combination of those two methods for advertising his products. For example, he may chose banner advertising networks with CPC.

Purpose of Ad Networks

The purpose of ad networks is to centralize everything in one place, thus lowering costs. That means that marketers can place the planning, execution and control of their internet ad campaign in one place. This level of simplification has been very well received in the internet ad business.

So, do ad networks really work? Of course they do. They help publishers sell their remnant inventory and they can target their ads to specific audiences (increasing the chance of selling the product).

What if you are not the advertiser, but the owner of a webpage who wishes to earn some money through internet propaganda, like banners. Then an ad network is the right choice for you. If your website attracts a lot of people, they can become potential buyers of the products advertised in your website. And if they actually click on the ad, then you are going to receive a sales commission from it. In the end, advertiser, ad network provider and webpage will benefit from the process.

Features of Ad Networks

There are several features which make an online advertising network interesting. The main one is that you can put your ad in thousands of different web pages by paying only once to the ad network provider.

Another advantage is the lower cost that the ad network represents to the advertiser. Since they have made mass negotiations and are experts in this matter, they are able to achieve lower tariffs than the ones that the advertiser would get if he did the work by himself.

The final advantage is quickness. It doesn't take months to place the ad online. It only requires, approximately, five business days to do it (this period of time depends on the ad network provider, but five days is a good average).
